Open the LoFi tab and NotchCafe composes a lofi soundtrack live, right on your Mac. Nothing streams or downloads during playback, so it works offline, with no ads and nothing to buffer.
Nine animated scenes
Midnight, Coast, Forest, Snow Cabin, Rainy Library, Lantern Garden, Cafe Window, Cassette Deck, and Radio Dial. Each is an original painted scene with its own quiet loop: waves and a crackling fire on the Coast, rain on the glass at Midnight, fireflies in the Lantern Garden.
Every minute or two, something rare happens: a flash of lightning, a pair of birds crossing the sky, or a shooting star. Your companions can climb the desks, shelves, and sills painted into each scene.
Shape the sound
- Modes: Music, Atmosphere, World, and Manual.
- Mixer: separate levels for beat, chords, bass, rain, birds, waves, wind, and distant city.
- Tempo and key: 60–100 BPM, any of the 12 musical keys, or Auto.
- Effects: rain, thunder, jungle, and fire.
- Shuffle notes (⇧⌘R) writes new chords and melody while keeping your key and mix.
The LoFi Rain effect brings rain to your desktop and inside the notch. With Location access, an optional toggle matches the scene to your local weather.
How it stays offline
NotchCafe bundles the open-source LoFi Engine and Tone.js. Piano, drums, and ambience come from bundled samples; bass is synthesized. Arrangements are generated live on your Mac. LoFi mixes alongside your other music and doesn’t control other players.
Give it the whole screen
In Full Screen Mode, LoFi becomes one large, centered 16:9 card with the scene, playback, and mixer controls. Entering or leaving full screen doesn’t pause or restart the music.

Cozy scenes pair ambient sound with notch lighting and companion moods: Rainy bookshop, Midnight café, and Sunday morning. Or turn on Rainy Mood for original stereo rain with drops falling across your display.
Scene motion pauses when hidden and stops when you turn off Animations or enable macOS Reduce Motion.
